"Mischief, Laughter, and Straight Ahead Great Music"

"Seeing Scuffletown is an evening of real entertainment. They're one of the Charlottesville area's gems. Marc Carraway's very seasoned songwriting and expert guitar work, along with John Whitlow's world class harmonica and wonderful flute make for a fine mix. Marc's top-shelf bourbon vocals (that would be smooth), along with the great energy of John's instrumental licks, creates a sound that is both steady and emotional all at the same time. A Scuffletown concert is full of mischief, laughter, and just straight ahead great music. When it's time for the encores, you'll be the one on your feet applauding."

"Soulful songwriting"

"Scuffletown's "Live at the Speakeasy" is a CD that sings with the spontaneous love of life. Marc Carraway's soulful songwriting is perfectly portrayed through his strong, yet often tender vocals. John Whitlow's harmonica completes the blend with harmonic virtuosity. A great CD to take on the road or just sit back and enjoy."

"It goes down smooth"

"This good-time duo's got range. Guitarist-songwriter Marc Carraway sings bittersweet ballads about moody loners and southbound trains. He's almost country, like Lyle; and small-town sensitive, like Robert Earl Keen. Mouth-harp wizard John Whitlow buoys a down-home blues with a shot of good cheer. It all goes down as smooth as a mug of cool suds on a warm Saturday night."

"Scuffletown is Proof Positive"

"An extremely impressive array of instrumentation and sound from a band of just two. Scuffletown is proof positive that the best things in life are the ones that last."

"Laugh, feel, dance, and laugh again"

“Scuffletown is more than a powerhouse duo; it's a good time with great musicians. Nothing programmed, nothing sampled, just pure, solid, original American folk music. Marc & John will make you laugh, feel, dance, and laugh again.”

"Compelling and Song-Centered"

Praise for the CD, "Scuffletown, live at the speakeasy":

"In a way, this CD has allowed me to appreciate these local songcraft aficionados more than I already did, because I get to play it over and over. Taking two instruments, harmonica and guitar, John Whitlow and Marc Carraway flesh out the sonic dynamics of folk, traditional blues, reggae and rockabilly in fresh ways. Carraway's pipes only get better the more warmed up he gets, bringing a comfortable, old-soul quality to traditional and personally-penned tunes. In fact, some of the strongest songs, 'All These Roads Lead Out Of Town,' 'Michael Goes To Water,' 'Mary In The Mountains' and 'All I Ever Needed,' are Carraway's work. Set against Whitlow's intuitive toots and bent notes, this collection of songs is compelling and always song-centered, which makes it playable and re-playable."
